Welcome to the Society of Supporters and Friends of the Arithmeum e.V.

The Society of Supporters and Friends of the Arithmeum e.V. is dedicated to promoting science, research, art, and culture – with a particular focus on providing both ideological and material support to the Arithmeum in Bonn.

This one-of-a-kind museum, founded in 1999 by Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Bernhard Korte, is the largest museum dedicated to the history of mechanical computing and a cultural gem that beautifully combines mathematics, design, and art in a fascinating way.

History

The Society of Supporters and Friends of the Arithmeum e.V. was founded in 2025 with the goal of sustainably supporting the Arithmeum in Bonn as a unique place where mathematics, art, and culture intersect. Our mission is to strengthen the museum’s cultural and scientific significance and to make it a long-term beacon of education and inspiration. By establishing the society, we aim to create a platform that enables support for the Arithmeum in all its facets – whether through the promotion of special exhibitions, educational programs, or the expansion of its impressive collection of historical calculating machines.

The society sees itself as a bridge between the museum and a community of supporters committed to preserving and developing this cultural gem. We invite all interested individuals to become part of this initiative and to actively shape the future of the Arithmeum with us. Whether as a member, donor, or sponsor – every form of support contributes to advancing the Arithmeum's vision.

With a growing community of members and supporters, we will realize numerous projects in the coming years. These will not only include ideological and material support for the museum but also the organization of events that further establish the Arithmeum as a place for encounter and exchange. Together, we aim to preserve and promote the Arithmeum as a unique place of inspiration and learning for future generations.

Goals and Mission

Our mission is to strengthen the cultural significance of the Arithmeum, promote innovative projects, and make the connection between mathematics, art, and culture tangible. We support the museum through the acquisition of funding, exhibits, and materials that enable the Arithmeum to fully fulfill its educational and cultural objectives.

Achievements and Projects

Thanks to the support of our members and supporters, we will be able to realize numerous exciting projects in the future that will further strengthen the Arithmeum as a unique place for mathematics, art, and culture. Planned projects include special exhibitions that will explore the connection between mathematics and design in innovative ways, as well as the restoration and expansion of the impressive collection of historical calculating machines.

Mathematics and Modern Art

A special highlight will be the planned exhibition that showcases the aesthetic parallels between mathematical concepts and contemporary art. A fascinating journey through the connection of logic and creativity.

Special Exhibition "Mathematics and Design"

The successful exhibition of 2023 vividly demonstrated how mathematical principles influence modern design. Fascinating connections were made visible, from architecture to product design.

2023

Restoration of Historical Calculating Machines

Through targeted restoration projects, we ensure that rare and valuable exhibits, such as mechanical calculating machines from the 17th and 18th centuries, shine again and are preserved for future generations.

2022

In addition to these projects, we are also planning the development of new educational programs aimed at inspiring young people with the fascinating world of mathematics. Workshops, interactive tours, and digital learning offerings will help further establish the Arithmeum as a place of learning and inspiration.

With the active support of our members and supporters, we will be able to make these and many other projects a reality. Together, we are laying the foundation for ensuring that the Arithmeum remains a place that continues to excite and inspire people of all ages in the future.
